This Week’s Devotional Topic

Do you make plans for each day? Are you a “list” person….making a list for things you want to do, tasks you want to accomplish. Today we are looking at “Goal Setting….God’s Way”. One of the many quips I remember from years ago and it has stuck with me is “plan your work, then work your plan”. God has plans for us, we see them throughout scripture. He makes promises according to His plan and He never breaks a promise.

Proverbs 15:22  Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.

Any project worth doing is worth investing time in a plan, a blueprint…

Luke 14:28-30   “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it? Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you. They would say, ‘There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’

Psalm 33:6-11   The LORD merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the LORD, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. For when He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command. The LORD frustrates the plans of the nations and thwarts all their schemes. But the LORD’s plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken.

As you make your plans, do so with an open heart..

Proverbs 16:9   A person plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.

Proverbs 3:5,6   Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

As you set goals, whether it is for this next hour, the next day, month or year, it is wise to seek his will, his way… as Jesus said in…

Matthew 7:24   Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.

While you make plans and set goals, remember to ask for God’s wisdom, remember that He loves you and knows what is best.

James 1:5-7   If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Here are couple more ‘rules for the road’ as you travel this path of life…

Matthew 6:33-34   But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Colossians 3:17   And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

And as you take on each day, working your list, circumstances will not always be comfortable and you might not think it’s best but from God’s perspective and plan, it’s all good…

Romans 8:27-30   And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Jeremiah 29:11   For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
